Fully embracing your journey to become the best version of yourself isn't just something that you decide to do one day and then wait for another day to inspire you to do the same. There is not a switch you can flip one day when you finally think, “I want to get in touch with my spiritual self”. Understanding, reaching, and finally embracing your spirituality is a journey that never truly ends. But where do you start, and how on earth do you begin building that elusive and abstract spiritual connection with the self?
Here are a few ways you can get started.
1 :: Repeatedly Ask Yourself The Important Questions
How often do you spend time asking yourself small questions about bigger goals or issues? Establishing a connection with yourself might be as easy as asking a few simple questions like :
These are questions that you can always ask yourself. The answers maybe different one day to the next as refine your spiritual journey
2 :: Ignore Nonsense
Mind games and irrelevant nonsense from others now seem to be an unavoidable part of everyday life. People love being subtle, and unless you don't mix with any other living human being, mind games, drama and nonsense are things you will always have to deal with. Don’t let yourself get caught up in the artificial social drama of those around you. These are things that bother you on the ego level, but they don’t affect your true, spiritual self.
3 :: Begin Every Day With Intention
Ensure that you are actively being part of every day. Don’t let another day pass with out living it to your fullest potential. Big ask? Maybe not. Simply ask yourself every morning whilst you're meditating or when you're sipping your tea or eating your toast, what are my intentions today?
Living aimlessly might feel like the right step towards being a more zen/connected person, but without a goal or direction in mind, your thoughts will always feel fleeting rather than pointed
and without direction, you lack the proper foundation to build a true connection with your spirituality. They can be as simple as getting out of bed at 6am, finishing another chapter in a book, or trying a different food. As long as you give yourself a direction to push yourself towards, you can begin setting and following your intentions.
4 :: Living Senses Practice
Being in touch with your higher self means being in touch with your body; it means living in the moment, not living on autopilot. Our brains are surprisingly effective when it comes to drowning out everything that we’re sensing, and many of us live lives without truly being present at all.
So train yourself to be aware of your body again, try these exercises at least daily:
•5 things you see
•4 things you feel
•3 things you hear
•2 things you smell
•1 thing you taste
5:: Accept the World For What It Is
Accepting the world for the way it is will help you out no end. Every action has a resulting reaction. After millions of years of actions and reactions the conditions are as we see them today. So with the right intention, you are contributing to the fabric of the world the way it is. This doesn't mean living a passive, shy life though. It means you must know when to act and when not to act, by understanding the difference between what you can and cannot change. Don’t let the world push you around, but don’t concern yourself with issues that you have no power to change.
Find that sweet balance between these two, and you will succeed spiritually in everything you do.
6 :: Feed Your Mind
Reading. A spiritually inclined person is a keen reader because there are few hobbies (other than meditation) more important to help you connect with your spirituality than reading. Unlike watching movies or playing games, reading is an active effort that demands your attention while you breathe it in, making it so much more beneficial for the mind. Feed your curiosity and learn everything you want to learn from books.
7:: Meditation
Meditation is the key to spirituality, even 7 minutes a day is enough to reap the most basic benefits. Many people struggle to find that.
Understanding and connecting with our spiritual self means letting go. If we can set aside 15 minutes a day to sit comfortably in a quiet spot, with no distractions or disturbances, meditating on your breathing in and out, whilst forgetting your concerns and listening to the sound your heart, this can have massive positive impacts to our health and our wellbeing.
8:: Live with a light heart and an easy smile.
Our time in this world is brief, a moment in the grand scheme of things. If you zoom out from all your troubles and problems in the current moment, none of them really mean anything at all.
You are experiencing the human experience —try and smile.
